How Should I Water My Newly Installed Plants? (See Chart Below)
Newly installed plants require consistent watering to establish healthy root systems and long-term growth. To ensure proper care, please follow the watering schedule outlined in the chart below. This chart provides specific guidance based on plant type and timing after installation. Sticking to this schedule will help your plants thrive, prevent stress, and promote strong, resilient growth.

COMMENTS:
- Water for the first two weeks should be every day, following two weeks every other day. 30 minutes per plant area if using a sprinkler.
- Hose on slow for 10 minutes per tree the first week would be best over a sprinkler.
- If we receive a quarter inch of rain or more during the day, the watering schedule will change slightly.
SEED & SOD:
- Make certain that water is getting to all areas of your new lawn, regardless of the type of sprinkler system you use. Corners and edges are easily missed by many sprinklers and are particularly vulnerable to drying out faster than the center portion of your new lawn.
- Runoff may occur on some soils and sloped areas before the soil is adequately moist. To conserve water and ensure adequate soak-in, turn off the water when run-off begins. Then, wait 30 minutes to an hour and re-start watering process on the same area. Repeat this process as necessary.
- Water as early in the morning as possible to take advantage of the daily start of the grass’s normal growing cycle. Because wind speeds are generally lower in the morning and there is less loss of water due to evaporation, mornings are prime time for watering sod.
- If the temperature approaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or if high winds are constant for more than half of the day, reduce the temperature of your turf by lightly sprinkling the area. The sprinkling does not replace the need for longer, deeper watering, which will become even more crucial to continue during adverse weather conditions.
- Infrequent and deep watering is preferred over frequent and shallow watering is preferred because the roots will only grow as deeply as their available water supply.
- New sod will die without water – the success of your new lawn is now in your hands.
